Q. What is Naturopathic Medicine?
A. Naturopathic medicine is a unique and comprehensive approach to improving health and treating illness. Naturopathic doctors (ND's) focus on prevention and use natural substances and treatments to support and stimulate the body's ability to heal itself. In naturopathic medicine the patient is seen as a whole person and the ND takes the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual dimensions into account when diagnosing and developing a treatment plan.

Q. What kind of education and training does a Naturopathic Doctor have?
A. Naturopathic doctors (ND's) take a minimum of three years premedical studies at university, followed by four years at a recognized college of naturopathic medicine - The Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Canada. The education encompasses basic medical sciences, naturopathic principles and therapeutics, and 1500 hours of supervised clinical experience.

In regulated (or licensed) provinces and states across North America, graduates must also pass rigorous standardized exams to qualify for practice. In Canada, ND's are regulated in British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, and Saskatchewan. Legislation is pending in Alberta and Nova Scotia.

Q. What is Homeopathy?
A. Homeopathy was known at the time of the ancient Greeks, its name being derived from the Greek "homoios" meaning "like" or "similar". This refers to the central principle of Homeopathy: that a substance, which can produce certain symptoms in a healthy person, can alleviate similar symptoms in a sick person. Because the substances are given in minute doses, unwanted side-effects are avoided, and the medicines are safe to use where conventional drugs may be inadvisable e.g. in the case of infants, nursing mothers, or the elderly.

Q. What does "30K" mean on the Homeopathic remedies?
A. The number designation refers to the dilution or "potency" of the remedy. When referring to homeopathic medicines, higher potencies are actually more diluted, and lower potencies are less diluted. The "K" " refers to Korsikovian method of dilution.

A 30K dilution is considered to be a medium potency, which is ideal for first aid use. The selection of the potency or potencies prescribed by a naturopathic or homeopathic doctor for a particular condition will depend upon several factors, including the age or sensitivity of the individual taking the remedy, the nature and duration of his or her symptoms, and the relative depth or degree to which the particular homeopathic medicine utilized tends to stimulate healing.

When re-filling single remedies in your RemediKits, if a 30K potency is unavailable at your retailer, a 30CH potency (which uses the Hahnemannian method of dilution) may be substituted.

Essential oils are absorbed into the bloodstream via the skin or the lungs, and travel to the brain and central nervous system via sensors in the nose. Just a few drops of a single oil can have an extraordinary impact on the body and mind.

A. Botanicals are plants or their components parts (flowers, leaves, seeds, stems, roots etc.) They have been used for thousands of years - and in every culture throughout the world - to prevent illness and promote healing. Herbs fall into the general category of botanicals.

Q. What are Flower Essence Remedies
A. Flower Essences are not therapeutic drugs -- they work on an emotional level, harmonizing negative feelings and belief patterns held in the subconscious mind -- and are used to prompt greater levels of health and well-being in the user. For centuries, the vital force of certain flowers has been used to treat specific emotional imbalances in humans and animals. This specialized branch of herbal medicine uses only the flower - the highly potent and vital seed-bearing organ of the plant - and only non-toxic plants. It was discovered that the vital energy of these flowers could be extracted via water, e.g. raindrops or dew on blossoms, which is exposed to direct sunlight and then highly diluted. To this day, the only materials used to prepare most flower essence remedies are pure water, blossoms, sunlight and a clean glass bowl. They are carried in an alcohol solution. Q. Where is the best place to store my RemediKits?
A. We recommend that your RemediKit be stored in a cool, dry place, away from exposure to direct sunlight, electrical equipment, electro-magnetic fields, or X-rays. Homeopathic remedies, flower essences and herbal tinctures, in particular, are sensitive to X-rays and should be taken out of baggage when passing through airport security stations. As with all medications, this kit should be safely stored away from children.
